Dave Fiedler: The Master of Corvette Transistor Ignition Restoration

Dave Fiedler

When I sat down with Dave Fiedler, it quickly became clear that I wasn’t just talking to a Corvette enthusiast—I was talking to one of the most specialized Corvette restoration experts in the country. What makes this even more remarkable is that Dave lives right here in Richmond, Indiana, yet his work takes him across the United States, Europe, and Australia.

Dave Fiedler is widely known for his deep expertise in Corvette Transistor Ignition (TI) systems, a highly complex and often misunderstood part of classic Corvette engineering. In fact, Dave is recognized as one of the only specialists in the nation who focuses exclusively on restoring and correctly calibrating original and reproduction K66 Transistor Ignition components for Corvettes produced between 1964 and 1971.

Through his company, T.I. Specialty, Dave offers original and reproduction TI components, along with full restoration services for tach-drive distributors (both TI and points style) from 1962 through 1974. His work isn’t about simply replacing parts—it’s about restoring performance exactly as General Motors engineered it.

What sets Dave apart is his unmatched understanding of advance curves, distributor part numbers, camshaft design, and spark timing precision. As Dave explains in his technical writings, not all TI distributors are equivalent. Between 1964 and 1971 alone, 23 different distributor part numbers were used—each engineered for a specific engine combination. Using the wrong distributor can result in poor performance, reduced power, and drivability issues. Dave’s restorations ensure every component works together exactly as intended.

This level of precision is why collectors, restorers, and NCRS judges trust Dave’s work. He is an NCRS Member (#18329) and his reputation is built on accuracy, originality, and engineering excellence—not shortcuts.

Dave’s philosophy is simple and clearly stated:

“Remember, when you have problems with your Corvette ignition, others will sell you parts—T.I. Specialty will offer you solutions.”

From Richmond, Indiana to garages around the world, Dave Fiedler continues to preserve the legacy of Corvette engineering—one perfectly restored ignition system at a time.
